My first analog camera
The Nikon FE 10 holds a special place in my heart, as it was my very first analog camera. It was an overpriced model, purchased at a camera shop in NYC just two hours before my class was set to begin. The name "FE" stands for "Full Electric," which means a battery is required for the camera to function—a fact that was learned the hard way during a cold winter morning, when it seemed the camera had broken after only a week of use. Little did I know, it simply was the battery being cold!
The excitement was felt in not being able to immediately see the photos, as well as in learning how to use the light meter and adjust the shutter speed. The process of discovery and anticipation was embraced, as each shot had to be carefully considered without the instant feedback digital cameras provide. The skills needed to manage light and exposure were gradually developed, making the experience even more rewarding.
